5 Ways to Incorporate Gray Into Your Bathroom

Gray is a classic, timeless color for the bathroom. And that’s true whether it’s the powder room, master bath or your child’s space. Gray is a highly versatile neutral that’s balanced, soothing, warm and soft. It goes with so many other colors and holds its own in both masculine and feminine spaces. Get to know your shades of grays and start creating a gorgeous new space!
Gray 101
Though it’s a neutral, the shade of gray you use solo or together in your bathroom matters. Shades include lighter silvers, lavender grays, purple/blue grays, greenish grays, pure grays and darker charcoal grays. Some grays look beautiful together, while some may not harmonize well to you. Choose a shade you love, and work from there.
Gray and white bathroom ideas are beautiful. Take your cues from gray and white bedding ensembles to see what combinations look best together. You may just want to make over your bedroom in gray, too! One gray may look beautiful partnered with a pastel or yellow, while a darker shade of gray with golden yellow has vintage appeal.
Gray Walls
Gray enthusiasts will love the idea of two-toned gray walls. Medium dark gray on the bottom half of a wall topped by light gray gives a small space extra depth. Pale gray wainscoting topped with light gray wall looks soothing and lightens a room. Even in monochromatic spaces, it’s beautiful to have white walls to break up the neutral coloring a bit. Interrupt monochromatic walls with over-sized bathroom mirrors, and especially mirrors framed in silver or beveled glass frames.
Gray bathrooms need great lighting. Consider tube sconces with silver accents or shaded sconces with mirrored chrome, polished nickel or satin nickel backplates topped by frosted white or cream glass shades. If your ceilings are high enough, add a mini-chandelier over a bathtub or a series of mini-chandeliers flanking a mirror at the sink. These will brighten a gray bathroom without creating glare or shadows.
Gray Floors
Bring elegance to white-tiled bathroom floors with a gray bath mat and matching towel set. Jacquard woven mats add texture to monochromatic tiles. If new flooring is in the budget, opt for plank tile in dark or medium dark grays with white grout lines to make it appear as if you have old world stone or weathered wood on your bathroom floors.
Gray Furniture
Did you inherit a gray toilet, tub or sink? Embrace it by pairing the plumbing with bath furnishings in pearly cream. Or paint cabinetry, a vanity, a console and a shelf in soft white or warm gray. Warm gray tonal colors are visible in beach pebbles and driftwood. When incorporated into your bathroom, these evoke a natural, coastal feeling. Even weathered wood and driftwood tones or medium light woods work well with grays, creams and whites.
Gray Accessories
You may have fallen in love with a gray and white shower curtain. It evokes sophistication and reminds you of a certain luxury hotel room you enjoyed. But how do you integrate it into your bathroom? Bring in more of these hues with gray towels, white towels and a complementary color to the shade of gray. Even a burnished orange hue looks beautiful with shades of gray. Regardless of the shade of gray you have, the right accessories pull off a sparkling gray bathroom.
Add in unexpected clear glass accessories, such as frames and trays, or even a clear acrylic vanity chair. Or, add silver bathroom fixtures and faucets plus drawer hardware to soap holders, towel bars and paper holders to offset the gray. For a creative touch with gray accessories, consider galvanized vases, trays or lanterns filled with candles in your gray-toned bathroom.
A modern monochromatic gray look in your bathroom works particularly well when you stick to one tone in various textures and patterns. Light to medium grays are easiest to work with in a monochromatic scheme. Everything from a subtle texture wallpaper to your bathmats and weathered wood vanity can look great in gray hues. If you go for this look, consider sticking with white walls or a white tiled floor and adding gray everywhere else. Follow these tips and your gray haven will be the cheeriest of them all.
