How to
Decorate the Mantel
for Christmas

The holidays are often spent cozied up by the hearth. From wrapping presents to wintertime lounging, the fireplace is the star of the living room. Make your mantel merry and bright with holiday garland, lit decor, flameless candles, stocking holders and stockings for the whole family.

Set the stage with holiday garland. Live foliage is aromatic, but faux is festive, too. Topiaries, string lights, ornaments and boughs of holly can be tucked, nestled or tied into the greenery.

’Tis the season of twinkling lights, so it’s only fitting that your mantel sparkles and shines. Kick up the woodland whimsy with lit reindeer decor and mercury trees, or flank your mantel with lit stars for a luxurious, rustic look. Lit decor and flameless candles play together nicely – both add a feeling of warmth to an already toasty fireplace. (Tip: If your firebox isn’t functional, group flameless candles together to emit a faux glow from the fireplace.)

Stockings signal the season: When they go up, the holidays have officially begun. What feels more nostalgic than seeing them lined up, filled will sweets and holiday cheer? Stockings with unexpected textures bring warmth and luxury to your mantel: chunky-knit, shiny velvet and faux-fur all are stylish options. And if you want to steer clear of the traditional holiday colors, the contrasting textures are a perfect way to make a neutral palette feel interesting and chic.
