How to Set an Eclectic Thanksgiving Table

Some people tend to source their home decor, wardrobe and furniture from a lot of different places. The dinner table is one place where this eclectic approach can yield amazing results. There's no better time than the holidays to showcase your creativity and festive spirit to friends and family, so here's how to set a Thanksgiving table that reflects your individual style.

Roll out a runner. Add a layer of texture and a visual element with a table runner, choosing textures and colors that appeal to you. Lace and burlap are elegant choices that provide flexibility, so you can achieve the look you want while also protecting your dining table. To make a bigger statement, choose bold hues and geometric patterns. Antique shops often have interesting textiles, so stop by your local markets to find ones that feel really special to you.

Add flameless candles. Family-friendly and versatile, our flameless candles provide the right amount of shimmer and shine to any tabletop. Stand them on their own or illuminate a glass hurricane or cloche. The soft, flickering candlelight is especially inviting, and will make your Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family even more exceptional. They are practical, too – you can pass dishes across the table without the worries of an open flame.

Scatter fresh foliage. Bring the outdoors in by creating attractive, eco-conscious centerpieces using items found right in your backyard. By utilizing sprigs of greenery, you can create a fresh, unexpected look. We also love wheat bundle centerpieces, which are a quick fix for a lackluster Thanksgiving table.

Add more flameless candles. Because can you ever really have enough?

Lay down linens. Napkins make it easy to add a splash of color or another layer of texture. Choose one color or mix and match your favorite hues for a seamless look. Slip in a bit of greenery to your napkin ring – you will likely have some leftover from your foliage project. Colorful linens add personality, while white or ivory can subdue other bold patterns.

Layer patterned and solid plates. By using assorted plates and chargers, you can build table settings that are unique to each guest. Our variety of plates have been crafted with durable glazed stoneware, and the imagery on some are designed inside our San Francisco studio by our artists – which gives them that extra bit of originality. Try live-edge wood chargers, which are both handsome and beautiful, under patterned plates that make a statement. We also find the combination of gold, crystal and vibrant dinnerware contrast each other nicely when setting the table.

Put everyone in his or her place. This is where things can get personal – in a good way! Thanksgiving place cards don't have the be formal – handwritten ones are just as impressive, and you can even write why you're thankful for the individual guest on the back. Get as creative here as you'd like; these can double up as keepsakes. Bonus: Placecards help with the flow of traffic if space is a little tight.
